The NHS Clinical Entrepreneur Programme (CEP) is one of the UK’s most forward-thinking initiatives, designed to harness the creativity and expertise of healthcare professionals to drive innovation within the National Health Service. Launched in 2016, the programme offers clinical and non-clinical staff a unique opportunity to develop entrepreneurial skills, accelerate the growth of innovative healthcare solutions, and ultimately improve patient care across the system.
What Is the Clinical Entrepreneur Programme?
Run by NHS England’s Innovation, Research and Life Sciences group, the Clinical Entrepreneur Programme is the largest entrepreneurial workforce development initiative in the world. It supports NHS staff who want to commercialise their ideas or contribute to innovative healthcare ventures—without having to leave their clinical roles.
Participants range from doctors, nurses, and pharmacists to allied health professionals, healthcare scientists, and NHS managers. The programme offers a mix of mentoring, masterclasses, networking events, and access to a wide ecosystem of investors, industry partners, and policymakers.
Why It Matters
